Do-It-All point guard Ellis is heading to Louisville
On Wednesday afternoon, Chris Mack and staff picked up yet another top guard prospect. This time, it came via the JUCO market, as the Cardinals landed El Ellis from Tallahassee Community College. Ellis picked UofL over the likes of Oregon, Florida, Georgia, NC Central, and UConn. He will play one more year in JUCO, before playing two in Louisville.
This is the second consecutive season that Louisville has signed the #1 rated JUCO in the nation after gaining a commitment from Jay Scrubb last season. Scrubb decided to turn pro instead of attend Louisville for the upcoming season.
This past season, Ellis was named the Florida Panhandle Conference Player of the Year and an NJCAA second-team All-American. He earned these accolades as his squad went 27-6 and he averaged 14.3 points, 4.4 assists, and 4.0 rebounds per game.
El grew up loving the ACC and knew he wanted to go to an ACC school. His father Elbert played football at Pitt and went on to play for the Packers and Panthers in the NFL.
“Throughout the whole process, they were on me hard telling me how much they needed me. The ACC, that’s the best conference in college basketball so having the opportunity to be on that stage, that’s amazing,” he told Sports Illustrated.
Ellis will join four-star David Johnson and three-star Bobby Pettiford at the position in 2021.
