Clemson Tigers big man Aamir Simms has announced that he is withdrawing from the 2020 NBA Draft and will return to school for his senior campaign. The decision was first reported by Jon Rothstein.
Simms was an All-ACC third team member following the the 2019-20 college basketball season after averaging 13.0 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game, all which led Clemson and all of which were career highs. He made the move from being a perimeter oriented player to the small ball five spot last season and seemed to flourish.
Simms was still a threat from the perimeter even after the move to the pivot, connecting on 30 triples in just 85 attempts en route to another career high of 40% shooting from behind the arc.
The decision is fantastic news for Clemson as they are now set to return four of their five starters and six of their top eight scorers from a 16-15 team. Coach Brad Brownell will also have the services of 15 point per game scorer Nick Honor, a transfer from Fordham and four-star big man P.J. Hall next season.
