Horne enters “The Portal”

A difficult off-season continued for Mike Young and the Virginia Tech Hokies over Memorial Day weekend as starting forward P.J. Horne announced his decision to transfer out of the program.

I first saw the news tweeted by Dan McDonald of Rivals:

It has been a tough go for Young since the season ended, leading scorer Landers Nolley Jr. decided to transfer to Memphis, reserve guard Isaiah Wilkins transferred to hometown Wake Forest and now Horne, who has been a stalwart in the paint for the often undersized Hokies, will be leaving town as well.

Horne started 30 games for Virginia Tech last season, averaging 7.6 points per game and 4.2 rebounds. At just 6’5, he played as a undersized pivot almost the entire season season. Prior to the the 2019-20 season, he was the primary backup to former Hokie star Kerry Blackshear Jr.

The move leaves only John Ojiako and former Wofford forward Keve Aluma as scholarship front court players on the roster.
