Georgia Tech men’s basketball received some good news today as James Banks, a transfer from Texas, was cleared to play by the NCAA. The news comes two games into the season and on a game day.
Banks, a 6’10 center, was ranked #63 in the 2016 recruiting class. The Georgia native averaged 1.7 points and 2.3 rebounds in 46 games in Austin, though he was constantly recruited over during his time there.
In his sophomore season, Banks has a per 40 minutes average of 4.6 blocks per game. Rim protection is at a premium for the Yellow Jackets after the loss of defensive dynamo Ben Lammers last season.
Banks made the announcement on his Instagram page Tuesday afternoon and is eligible to play immediately. Georgia Tech plays Tennessee in Knoxville tonight with a 9 pm tip. The game will be broadcast on ESPN2.
