I found it interesting that last weekend Florida State hosted both James Wiseman and Balsa Koprivica in the same weekend. They are two very talented players who occupy the same position. Then again, it may have been brilliant. As some of you know, I rarely doubt Charlton Young and Stan Jones. Yesterday evening, the tactic appeared to bear fruit, as Balsa Koprivica committed to Florida State.
Koprivica is a 7’1 Center out of Montverde who is ranked #72 currently. He was part of last year’s national championship team that featured Florida’s Andrew Nembhard, GT’s Mike Devoe and Gonzaga’s Filip Petrusev. Basla was once thought to be a one and done prospect, he gives coach Leonard Hamilton another 7 footer, which has become commonplace for the FSU roster.
This also effectively eliminates Wiseman from potentially committing to FSU. The Seminoles were always considered a long shot.
The wrinkle here is that Balsa was recently implicated during the pay for play trial in New York. He was apparently discussed by Christian Dawkins and LSU Head Coach Will Wade that was caught on a wire tap. It will be interesting to see what comes of that.
