According to reports, Duke junior center Javin DeLaurier will be out 10 days with a stress reaction in his foot. If someone could explain if there is a different between a stress reaction and a stress fracture I would appreciate it. I am assuming if it were a fracture Javin would be out more than 10 days.
The injury doesn’t seem to be threatening DeLaurier’s season at the moment, but stress reaction’s can turn into breaks if severe enough. Georgia Tech wing Curtis Haywood II suffered a “stress reaction” last season that required off-season surgery to place a rod in his leg.
DeLaurier, in my opinion, was set to have somewhat of a breakout season as a junior. I believe he would have (and could still possibly) surpass Marques Bolden for minutes at the five spot when Coach K decides to play freshman Zion Williamson at the four spot. He is a former 4 star recruit and top 40 player in the 2016 class.
As a sophomore last season DeLaurier appeared in 33 games, starting 5 and averaged 3.4 points and 4 rebounds per game. He also shot 71% from the field.
