When I am correct, I am typically quite flamboyant about it. It is mostly because it happens so infrequently. I just finished up watching Notre Dame beat Depaul by 14 in Chicago, and my boy TJ Gibbs did not disappoint.
You may remember that I chose Gibbs as my #1 breakout player in the ACC this year. He finished up his first game of his sophomore campaign with 21 points on 7-11 shooting. The 6-3 off guard looked long and lean after losing 17 pounds in the off-season, and parlayed that into 38 minutes of court time tonight.
Matt Farrell struggled in the first half tonight, but hit 4 threes in the second half to help the Irish put it away.
DePaul actually looked pretty good tonight, but couldn’t hang when Farrell started to hit threes and Max Strus wasn’t able to hit the broad side of that barn over there.
Bonzie Colson was his typical excellent self, garnering 18 points and 11 rebounds for his first double-double of the season. The Irish made it a point to run their offense through Colson, so expect his big numbers to continue. He actually showed a running hook a couple times that could become a real weapon.
Strus and Maric started out 1-13 for DePaul and the Blue Demons shot 28% in the first half. The Irish may have been in a bit of trouble had they played a team that knew how to win.
I had the Irish laying 9 and cashed pretty easily to move to 3-1 on the season with my wagers. My next wager is Kentucky -12 at home against Vermont. Easy money.
Tomorrow I get my first look at Louisville, and I plan on watching Miami play Navy. Virginia Tech is -25.5 favorites against the Citadel, stay away, that spread is way too big on weekend where a team is playing 2 games in 3 days.
