Some big time recruits for the 2018 season are cutting their lists down to the final 8 or less and as expected the ACC is all over everyone’s list. Obviously the big prize for 2017 is still lingering as we all await what is going to happen with Marvin Bagley Jr., the 6’10 phenom from California. Until we know for sure, lets tackle some other recruiting news.
Manny Bates 6’9 195 F/C Fayetteville NC: The top 150 4* recruit cut his list to 7 including Louisville, NC State and Georgia Tech. DePaul, Xavier, Georgetown and South Carolina were also named. The Jack Britt center is rated at the #107 player in the country according to the 247sports composite. NC State is considered the favorite according to the crystal ball but when Louisville gets involved anything is possible.
There ain’t no party like a Coach Pitino party.
Landers Nolley 6’4 175 SG Fairburn GA: This is guy is one of my personal favorites. I was able to watch him and his Team Loaded NC team recently and he and his backcourt mate Nate Hinton (Recently on an OV to Houston) are a lot of fun to watch. Landers has cut his list a more manageable number of 32. FSU, GT, Clemson, NCST and Virginia Tech all made the “cut”. He also released it in a bracket style version giving all 32 teams seeds and matchups.
This is interesting, and different, though to “cut a list” to 32 teams seems a bit attention seeking. My guess is he has a final 8 in mind. I have yet to discover how quickly he intends on posting scores and advancements. I would keep an eye on #25 seed UConn, and #27 seed Virginia Tech to pull some large upsets. If anything the entertainment value here will be high.
Luther Muhammad 6’4 185 SG Jersey City (NJ): Muhammad, a 4 star wing scorer out of Hudson Catholic, is ranked #65 according to the 247sports composite rankings in the class of 2018. His list has been cut to 5 and includes Tony Bennetts’ highflying Virginia Cavaliers. Crystal Ball predictions had been in favor of Notre Dame prior to the cut but they have been eliminated. Xavier, St. Johns, Ohio State and Virginias in-state rival West Virginia round out the final 5.
Jeremiah Francis (2019) 6’3 190 Pickerington (OH): UNC and Florida St are in the top 10 for the #61 prospect in the 2019 class. The number 1 player in Ohio recently cut his list down to the ACC pair along with Ohio St, Iowa, Indiana, Dayton, Missouri, West Virginia, TCU and Purdue.
- Virginia Tech has offered 6’5 swingman Talen Horton-Tucker
- Drue Dinnon, PG out of Pebblebrook (Commerce GA) and former backcourt mate of current Alabama guard Colin Sexton, has scheduled an official visit to Pittsburgh from 9/15-9/17. Dinnon is a 3* recruit and considered a heavy UGA lean. Even if he goes to Pitt for a year, he will probably run screaming from Stallings in a year anyways.
- According accsports.com Duke is working on a way to take both Tre Jones and Darius Garland in the 2018 haul. Jones is the younger brother of Duke national champion, and current Minnesota Timberwolves guard, Tyus Jones. Both players are ranked in the top 10 of the 2018 class.
